This 1980s shou cake is one of the cleanest stored shou teas we have ever tried. It is outrageously thick, sweet, bright and delicious. It has an amazing clarity rarely found in shou teas, with powerful energy to boot. Shou tea was artificially fermented along different lines at this time, with more skill. The fermentation was stopped earlier, as opposed to the full fermentation common nowadays. This means that the tea could actually age and change, as opposed to just mellowing out. This tea, therefore, has some characteristics of an aged sheng as well.
