These chabu are cut and finished from hand-woven cotton rice sacks dating back to 1950s rural China, making each one a piece of living history. Discovered drying on a balcony in a remote mountain village near Chengdu, kept by a young couple who collect old fabrics to preserve their heritage, these sacks were woven by farmers and strong enough to carry rice for eighty years. Patched, mended, and stitched over decades, they bear the quiet marks of daily life: colourful woven lines, age-worn texture, and warm brown stains where the rice itself left its mark.

Each piece was sourced, carefully cleaned, cut, and finished by Taya, an artist and tea lover based in Hong Kong.

As these are one-of-a-kind vintage pieces, no two chabus are alike. Variations in texture, patching, colour, and size are inherent to their nature and part of what makes each one so special.

The approximate size is 120cm long and 22cm wide.
