Sky Dragon is a very well-aged oolong from Hsinchu County. It was made from the Qinshin Dayo varietal. We know this as all the oolongs from back in the day were this varietal—a clue verified by the size of the leaves. It is hard to know the age of this tea, as there is no way to verify what vendors say, save comparing it to other aged oolongs we have tried. It is certainly decades old. When Taiwanese oolongs cross the thirty- to forty-year range, they develop a slight carbon flavor, which this tea has in spades. It has a deep nutty flavor with hints of medicinal herbs and, of course, a powerful and uplifting Qi. We acquired two aged oolongs from this region. The other one, called Water Dragon, is not as old, but a bit more affordable and very different in its flavor profile.
