Large Antique Cups

These cups are from the Qing Dynasty (1644–1911), and their larger size suits darker teas especially well.  As with all antique porcelain, the quality of the clay, the wood firing and generations of use lend the tea something modern cups rarely match.

Originally wine cups, they have almost certainly been used for tea for decades. They are simple, everyday cups, the kind ordinary people used, which to us better holds the spirit of tea. They are wabi, imperfect: being old, each carries spots, chips and the occasional hairline crack, though none leak. We hope you will not merely accept these marks of time but celebrate them, as the wear of daily use across centuries is much of what these cups are.

These cups hold approximately 70–90ml, though each varies slightly.
