These large jars are made by our dear friend Peter Kuo of Da Qian Studio, and are the same size and shape as his water urns. Each one began as a water urn, but small cracks that opened during the firing make them unsuitable for holding water, but well suited to storing a larger amount of tea for aging.

The jar takes the same rounded, gently waisted form as Peter's water urns, generous through the belly and drawing in a little toward the foot. Its fitted lid is lifted by a handle of found wood, each one different, chosen and set in the same wabi spirit as the handles Peter makes for his urns.

These jars are best for storing black teas, puerh and some red teas. They are made for keeping tea over the longer term, though the size works nicely for daily drinkers too.

Each jar stands roughly 27cm tall and 27cm across, measured to the outer edges and without the lid, and as they are handmade the exact size varies a little from one to the next. How much tea a jar holds depends on the tea, but for most loose-leaf teas it will be a few kilograms.
