Shadesmar is a brick tea from the late 1980s or early 1990s. We cannot be sure as the wrapper is generic, which was common for those times since the tea could not be directly imported from China and had to travel via Vietnam and with no wrapper to identify its source. Shadesmar has impeccable dry storage and has been well-aged for a shou, mellowing out all the piling flavors. The blend has some “huang pian,” which are larger leaves, lending it a mellow, camphor flavor that also makes this tea a great candidate for boiling. It tastes of medicinal herbs, fungus, bark, leather, and other aged things. The Qi is deep and earthy.
